Extremely comprehensive
I can't speak highly enough of the Group Soundbath Player Certification course with Jamie and Robert. They truly care about the art form and the benefits it has when presented and played correctly for those seeking a therapeutic experience. I started as a participant coming to their soundbath events. I had experienced many sound baths in the past but never like theirs. I started by attending often and bringing friends with me. There was something different in the way that their sound baths felt incredibly magical, transformative, and dynamic... It was substantial and beautiful. The way that Jamie and Robert respect and play the instruments - they are true facilitators of this therapeutic sound and vibration. When I learned they were launching a certification course, I felt it was in perfect timing and an opportunity that I wanted to embrace. The certification program takes 6 months to a year to complete. It is extremely comprehensive from music theory, to technique , to starting your own business. It requires both studying reading material and practicing. I couldn't have been more engrossed in it. I spent months hunting for soundbath training that wasn't either impossible to access or drowning in mystical language I couldn't connect with. When I found Jamie and Robert's Group Soundbath Player™ Certification Course, I finally felt like I'd found what I was looking for: a program that treats the soundbath as a legitimate skill you can actually learn and master. How to become a sound bath practitioner?
Instrument Requirements
If you want to play sound baths, you’ll need instruments. We recommend professional quality instruments.
What instruments are required for this course?
Below, the required instrument minimum outlines what you need in order to learn and practice the techniques taught in the course. The recommended instrument minimum is what we suggested as the minimum instruments to offer full 60 min sound bath events.
Required Instrument Minimum:
- 3 crystal singing bowls (at least one in the 3rd octave) with 2 mallets (that can play the rim and side of the bowl).
- 1 gong 30 inches or larger* with 1 large and 2 small/medium gong mallets.
Recommended Instrument Minimum:
- 5 crystal singing bowls – professional (with at least two in the 3rd octave).
- 1 premium (nickel silver) gong 30 inches or larger with 1 large and 2 small/medium gong mallets.
- 1 complementary instrument (bead drum, rain maker, or percussion tube).
*To maximize the effectiveness of our method and the playing techniques taught in this course, we recommend using instruments with a long sustain and the ability to produce high-quality sounds at all volume levels. For this reason, wind gongs DO NOT qualify as a required instrument, and we strongly discourage the use of stainless steel gongs.

Is this course based on ancient philosophies?
While many of the instruments used in sound baths have been around for hundreds of years (or longer), sound baths themselves are a relatively new wellness practice. Group sound baths, using crystal singing bowls and gongs, started in the 1980s and are not specifically linked to any spiritual systems or ancient philosophies.
For these reasons, our therapeutic-style sound bath method is not connected to any new-age philosophy or pseudoscience beliefs.
In this course, you will learn effective playing techniques, how to build a sustainable business, the scientific principles behind sound, how to combine instruments musically, and how to organize professional sound bath events.
What’s the Difference Between a Sound Bath, Sound Healing, and Sound Therapy
How long will it take to complete this course?
The course is self-paced and can be completed in as little as 2 months. With consistent study and practice, it should take approximately 3 to 6 months to finish.
To earn a certification, all registrants have one year to complete all course assignments, pass the certification exam, and sign the required legal documents. If you need more than a year, you can get 6-month course extensions included with certain instrument purchases (terms apply) or can be bought separately.
Is this course really 100% original?
Yes, Jamie Bechtold and Robert Lee started the first group sound bath training in 2017, focusing on crystal singing bowls and gongs. We developed our method and techniques by leading over 4,000 sound baths, hosting retreats, and running Los Angeles’s first and only sound bath studio for more than 10 years.
As sound baths have become more popular, we have seen more and more sound bath training programs in which the “teacher” appears to copy material from other courses or use someone else’s public course outline, sometimes ours. Most of the time, their course is presented as entirely their own, and the source of their teachings (or method) is rarely disclosed.
We feel it’s important for you to understand the origins, credibility, and authenticity of your teacher’s materials. Our methods and techniques are uniquely our own, developed and refined through thousands of sound baths, with a priority on developing skilled practitioners who deliver effective therapeutic results in every sound bath they play.

$500 Instrument Promotional Credit Terms & Conditions
The promotional instrument credit (“Credit”) included in the specified course registration options may only be used for instruments sold by Beyond Percussion or its subsidiary companies:
- Select crystal singing bowls sets (3 bowl minimum) from Beyond Percussion
- Any 30” or larger Gongland, Oetken, or Alchemy Gong
- Schlagwerk Percussion Tube (Infinity Gong)
Terms & Conditions
- Non-Monetary Value: The Promotional Credit has no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for cash, credit, or any currency of any kind. It is issued solely for promotional purposes and may only be applied toward the purchase of eligible instruments sold by Beyond Percussion or its subsidiaries as listed above.
- Eligibility and Usage: The Promotional Credit is non-transferable and may only be used by the registrant to whom it was issued. It is valid only for the specific instruments listed above and cannot be applied to other products or services offered by Beyond Percussion or its subsidiaries.
- Shipping & Sales Tax: The Promotional Credit cannot be used to cover shipping costs, sales tax, or any other fees associated with the purchase of eligible instruments. These costs are the sole responsibility of the registrant.
- Expiration: The Promotional Credit expires three (3) months from the date of the participant’s course registration. After this date, the Promotional Credit will be forfeited, and no extensions or exceptions will be granted.
- Damaged Products:Instruments purchased with the Promotional Credit are eligible for exchange if they are defective or damaged upon receipt. Exchanges must be initiated within 5 days of delivery and require prior authorization from Beyond Percussion. The registrant must submit documentation proving the damage. If approved, Beyond Percussion will replace the defective or damaged instrument with an identical or comparable model, subject to availability. No refunds, cash reimbursements, or reinstatements of the Promotional Credit will be issued for damaged items. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the registrant unless the defect or damage is directly attributable to Beyond Percussion. All other return requests are subject to Beyond Percussion’s instrument return and promotional credit policies.
- Restrictions:
- The Promotional Credit cannot be combined with other promotional offers, coupons, or special discounts, but it may be used in conjunction with regular student or SoundbathPlayer™ Pro member discounted prices.
- The Promotional Credit is not valid for use toward previously incurred expenses, prior purchases, or any other products or services not explicitly listed.
- The Promotional Credit may be applied to one purchase only.
- Forfeiture of Credit: If a participant violates any course terms and conditions, rules, or policies, or is removed from the course for any reason, the Promotional Credit will be immediately forfeited without recourse.
- Modification or Cancellation: Beyond Percussion reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel this promotional offer at any time without prior notice to participants, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
- Liability Limitation: Beyond Percussion and its subsidiaries shall not be liable for any loss, damage, or injury arising from the use or inability to use the Promotional Credit, including but not limited to issues related to product availability, technical errors, or changes to the promotional offer.
In-Person Gong Buying Consultation ($300 Value)
During this private session, you’ll receive expert guidance on what to listen for and how to choose a gong that fits your goals and budget by comparing at least 12 premium options. You’ll also get help choosing compatible accessories, such as mallets and stands, and recommendations on adding instruments to your sound bath setup.
Booking Terms and Conditions
- Your private gong consultation takes place at The Gong Room in Yucca Valley, California.
- Sessions are by appointment only and are up to 90 minutes.
- Once booked, appointments cannot be rescheduled. If you cannot attend, you may book a new session at the standard student rate.
- The session has no cash value, is non-transferable, and is for the enrolled student only; no additional participants are allowed.
- Complimentary session expires if not used within 6 months of your course registration date.
- Sessions involve listening to gongs but do not include you playing them.
